Selling Wine through Abbots

Selling Wine through Abbots

As soon as we receive a written instruction to sell your wine, we guarantee to sell it for a fair market price and send you a cheque for the full amount of its value.

Abbots will either offer a fair market price for the wine or undertake to broker the wine into the market (a target price may be set, but Abbots cannot be liable to guarantee the level of return). Please note that Abbots does not charge any additional commission for brokering client wine bought from us. Abbots clients are also free to sell their investment wines at auction or through any leading wine merchant. It is recommended that the commission charges being made by the seller be checked.

When investing in fine wine, it is important to plan a viable exit strategy when you decide to sell your wines. We are confident that our policy informs an asset disposal process which is ultimately quicker, easier and ideally more profitable for you. We are happy to assist you when you choose to sell some or your entire wine portfolio, aiming to achieve a fair market value within your desired timeframe. We will use a wide network of avenues for disposal:

Liv-ex

An international merchant-to-merchant electronic trading platform, whose 400+ members comprise the world’s major trade, retail and wine fund buyers.

Auction

Christie’s & Sotheby’s (UK, Europe & Asia), Acker Merrall & Condit (USA).

Wholesale

Standard UK merchant-to-merchant sales.

Private Client Sales

Abbots has an extensive network of private clients wishing to add to their own portfolio or private reserves.

Abbots will always recommend the most suitable strategy for disposal of your assets, based on differing global market conditions and exchange rate fluctuation. We will ensure you are kept up to date with news and price movements in connection with wines in your portfolio via email alerts or direct communication with your Abbots consultant.

You are welcome to sell wine bought from us back to Abbots at any time that suits you. You simply need to contact your wine consultant who can tell you the price of the specific vintage at that time. We can even assist you in selling wines to us that you have purchased independently of Abbots. However this would be subject to the provision of a satisfactory condition report of that particular wine.

For further information, see our Terms and Conditions or contact an Abbots wine consultant on 0207 250 4789.
